You've got the source.  Be my guest :-).

The whole "what user is used where" issue in Amanda needs a complete
top to bottom review and cleanup.  I agree it is very confusing.

I suspect that will solve your problem.  At some point (don't recall
when) the default became --with-amandahosts.  It might be that was
after 2.4.1p1.
