.amandahosts goes in the home directory of whichever user your
backups are configured to run under.   So if you configured them
to run as user "daemon" it would be ~daemon/.amandahosts; if you
configured it as user "amanda" it would be ~amanda/.amandahosts, etc.

Similarly, the backup server needs entries for root on your client
machines so they can do restores, and these go in the amanda user's
home directory on the backup server node.
