tried using stock RH7.0 amanda install with 2 clients I am adding to
backup. This version seemed to use "operator" instead of "amanda" for
user. Tried many variation of ownership including: amanda as operator,
amanda as 33, operator alone, etc... finally gave up and uninstalled
amanda from clients.
started over
adduser amanda -c "Amanada User" -d /var/lib/amanda -u 33 -g 6
Downloaded 2.4.2p2 and ran
./configure --with-user=amanda =
--with-group-disk \
--without-server \
--with-index-server=tserv.domain.com \
--with-tape-server=tserv.domain.com
make
make install
edited .amandahosts in /var/lib/amanda to:
localhost.localdomain amanda
tserv.domain.com amanda
edited disklist on tserv.domain.com to include
...
p2h.domain.com / comp-root-tar
p2n.domain.com / comp-root-tar
...
running amcheck from the tserv box gets.
Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check

looking at /tmp/amanda/amandad.tstamp.dump we see
...

/etc/services has the definition for 10080, 82, 83 on both machines.
Now it seems to me that the clue is in the dgram_recv: recvfrom()
failed.... but I have tried bunches of rights, ownership, etc... things...
I got to be missing something....
any ideas????
...
which begs the question.... how does user amanda(33) as a member of disk(6)
backup files and directories with xx0 masks????
...
