I have no idea. There isn't enough information here to make even a wild guess. What does "the first line fails" mean? Are you getting some kind of error message? What does it say? What version of Amanda? Actually, I can make one wild guess. Unless you changed the dumptypes, "always-full" uses "dump", and "dump" (in general) cannot do backups of subdirectories of file systems.
