I configure Amanda --with-mmap. This avoids the shm problem since mmap segments are freed on last close. I've been running like this for several years without problems on FreeBSD. Another system compiled without --with-mmap has problems with leftover shm segments when amanda does not exit cleanly (crash during dumps, etc.).
