Amanda can't span a single backup file across multiple tapes. Use tar instead if you are using dump, and arrange your disklist entries into less than full tape sized chunks of the directory structure on your system. I'm doing about 90 gigs of half full hard drives on 4 gig tapes in a changer here. Amanda arranges to scatter the fulls and such of each disklist entry so I get a full of every entry at least once a week, and does the 100 meg piddlies in between times. One tape per midnight run.
