NXDOMAIN is an abrevation for "non-existent host/domain"

there seems to be something wrong with the forward-mapping for
merlin on your nameserver. Do you have acces to this server?
and can you take a look at the zonefiles of named?
they should reside somewhere in /etc/bind or /var/named.
