netstat -a | grep -i amanda
the output is below
udp 0 0 *:amanda *:*

So my Xinetd is correct and amanda is listening on the port
ls -aul /usr/local/libexec/amandad
-rwxr-xr-x 1 amanda amanda 183532 Jan 3 13:32 /usr/local/libexec/amandad

As the time correlates to when I ran the check it meens that amandad is queryied and the last access time updated.

Anybody have any ideas??
I am running redhat 7.3(brought to you by Amanda 2.4.3)

Looks like it's a firewall problem. From your backup server, try a "nc -zvu your-host-to-backup amanda" to see if it can reach your port.
