It you change the datestamp of a tape then amanda will lose all informations of what's on that tape. 'amadmin <conf> find' will report that it doesn't find the log for that tape. amrecover will not be able to recover from that tape. The log files 'log.<datestamp>.<n>' will be erased. The index files for the dump on that tape will be erased. You can change the datestamp, but do it at the appropriate time, just before you want to reuse that tape.
