Amrecover restores to the state of the directory as of a particular date, i.e. the state of the directory at the time of the dump on that date. Lots of files may have existed in that directory at the time of the level 0 (probably the first tape that amrecover asked for). But between then and the date you asked amrecover to restore to, many of those files may have been deleted. Thus amrecover must delete them from the extraction directory to match events between the level 0 and the date you asked for. If you don't find what you want, perhaps ask amrecover for an earlier date. -- Jon H.
