Hi all,

I'm using Amanda to backup some WinXP/2000 hosts and everything is
going fine with the *backup* process. I've downloaded the
Amanda/Cygwin client on Zmanda wiki's pages, version 2.5.1p1, that
matches the Debian server version we're using.

Like I said, everything goes fine with the backup, but the restore
proccess isn't going well... I'm able to contact the server with
amrecover, through the 'recovery shell' installed by the setup. Also,
I can select the files/directories that need restoration.

When I issue the 'extract' command on amrecover's shell, I can see the
proccess starting as expected; the changer (well, actually some disks
on LVM, configured eith the disk driver) works fine, the tapes are
selected and loaded, all OK (so far). The directory tree I've selected
is restored fine.

The problem appear when restoring the files: I receive error messages
like "tar: permission denied" on EVERY file being extracted so that,
after proccess completes, all I've got is the directory tree, no files
at all.

The hosts in question are part of a domain, wich is working fine
(Samba PDC). The backups of Linuxes boxes works just fine.

I've done some research on Cygwin security issues, which I think is
the problem. I can see it's possible to integrate it's environment
with a win domain based network, but that should take a considerable
effort maintaining the '/etc/passwd' and '/etc/groups' on each Cygwin
installation.

So, has someone experienced the same problems and want to shed some
light?? Or could someone point me the right direction, in case I'm
looking to the wrong one?

In time 1: I know Amanda isn't yet the 'number one' backup solution to
Windows platform, but I wanna give it a try - don't want to install
Bacula only to make the work on these hosts.

In time 2: apologies for the english, isn't my native language... :-)

TIA,
Ivo

P.S.: haven't yet tried to hack on the 'passwd' or 'groups' files,
it's a bit of work, and I tought that maybe someone here could have
had experienced this and (hopefully) solved. I know this is a little
bit of lazyness, but I don't have much time for experiencing right
now, and there are some amount of groups/users. Sorry, folks!!
