I don't want to disagree with Steve's assessment. Mostly I think
he's right-on with his comments. However ...

I have on perhaps 5 occassions used 'amrmtape' followed by
'amlabel' to force-clear a tape so that it could re-cycle
"early". Mostly this has occurred in the (thankfully rare) case
of backup failures on the weekly cycle, combined with my
unwillingness to let a dud tape sit useless until it comes
around again in the regular cycle.

I should note that we (deliberately) have a bit of slack in the
weekly pool, and size things so that we've always got at least 2
x tapecycle tapes in 'reuse' status. There have been occassions
where I've move the re-labelled 'new' tapes from the top to the
bottom of the tapelist file in order to assure that they're used
next.

If you use this tactic AND you want to preserve the numeric
ordering of tapes, then you'll need to catch Weekly03 - Weekly05
on the next cycle and selectively apply amrmtape / amlabel during
that pass so that the tapes get re-ordered properly.
