So generally when loading tapes you have a couple options.  For small numbers 
of tapes, you can load a tape by the import / export slot and then transfer the 
tape to some usable element.  Or, for large numbers of tapes, disable the I/E 
slot and instead unload / load a whole magazine.

As per my OP, 23 tapes is sufficient, so I'll stick with the former method.  I 
will only be unloading / loading two or three tapes at a time for a while.

At least until we get a newer version of Amanda :)
