As everyone else is quiet I feel the need to reply now ;-)

I'd be happy to help getting this into the next release, sure, although
I have some suggestions for improvement and also some problems in
reading/understanding the original code (read: Stefan != perl-coder).

Depends on how big that "window of acceptance" is.

So far I only have a patched version working here, working only in the
PRE-dle-backup-phase, not in the POST-phase. This means
gentoo-environment, yes.

What about the original author? Did you get some replies?

I assume he might be happy to get his work into the official release, hm?
