CC: SYSLOG

Jean-Louis,

I added the unreserved-tcp-port line to my amanda.conf because
we where running short on UPD ports, too many concurrent dumps
when we had --tcp-portrange and --udp-portrange configured.

This did not create an issue between client-server on the same
or close networks but did run us into trouble for systems that
had local ipfilters or transited the FW.

I think removing that line will alieviate the problem and allow
those FW protected systems to backup normally.

* Alieviate the issue of systems not backing up, not alieviate
the issue of insufficient UDP ports for backup.

I take it the solutiions are either the
  1) limit concurrency per client (set MAXDUMPS to something smaller)
  2) increase the portrange
  3) move to BSDTCP auth so that larger hosts run within the portrange
     restiction.

thanks and apologies to Ivan,Dave and Chris who I made insane this week.
