Yes, it turned that the original tar-edit-snapshot script used some syntax that worked in older versions of Perl but not in more recent ones. I've submitted my updated version of the script to the GNU tar mailing list, so hopefully the revised version will soon be replacing the original on the tar website (that is, at http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/utils/tar-snapshot-edit.html ). Nathan p.s. Here's a link to the message I sent to the tar mailing list: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2011-08/msg00028.html (If that link someday stops working, the message in question was dated 27 Aug 2011 and has a subject of "update version of tar-snapshot-edit script".) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nathan Stratton Treadway - [email protected] - Mid-Atlantic region Ray Ontko & Co. - Software consulting services - http://www.ontko.com/ GPG Key: http://www.ontko.com/~nathanst/gpg_key.txt ID: 1023D/ECFB6239 Key fingerprint = 6AD8 485E 20B9 5C71 231C 0C32 15F3 ADCD ECFB 6239
