Odd. I am currently running Amanda 2.6.1p2-3 on Debian stable,
installed from the Debian repositories. So someone is still compiling
it on Linux.

I'd like to know exactly why it fails to compile. I.e. please copy and
paste into an email the error message and some context.

Also, what version of Linux?

On the assumption that the error message below is a compile time error
message, I suspect you are missing either a software package Amanda
requires, or a development package necessary to compile a program.

Did you compile these yourself or install the binaries? If the latter,
where did you get them?

Is there a reason not to move to a more recent version of Amanda?
