I just KNEW there had to be a genius here that had the answer, absolutely
spot on Nathan! I wasn't even aware there were 2 versions!

[root@coyote xinetd.d]# su - amanda -c "amcheck Daily"
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
Holding disk /usr/dumps: 415156 MB disk space available, using 414656 MB
Searching for label 'Dailys-4':found in slot 4: volume 'Dailys-4'
Will write to volume 'Dailys-4' in slot 4.
NOTE: skipping tape-writable test
NOTE: host info dir /usr/local/var/amanda/Daily/curinfo/lathe does not
exist
NOTE: it will be created on the next run.
NOTE: index dir /usr/local/var/amanda/Daily/index/lathe does not exist
NOTE: it will be created on the next run.
Server check took 0.218 seconds

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
Client check: 3 hosts checked in 2.550 seconds. 0 problems found.

(brought to you by Amanda 4.0.0alpha.svn.4624)

And, guess what? The tcp6 is gone too!!
gene@lathe:~$ netstat -a |grep amanda
tcp 0 0 *:amanda *:* LISTEN

And we'll see if this 4.0.0alpha.svn.4624) version prints ok, the next one
in the series did not last night.

Well, I have to do it eventually I imagine, but I'd sure like to start with
a WORKING system. ;-)

Every list needs a genius, looks like you get to wear that hat for a while.
:) Thanks Nathan.
