Joe,

Do amandad is executed? It should create debug files in /var/log/amanda/amandad
If not, check xinetd configuration and system log to find why.
If amandad is executed, check its debug file

Jean-Louis

Subject: server 3.5.1 - issue backing up localhost

All - Upgraded amanda to version 3.5.1 - all client backups are succeeding but
localhost is failing.

PROD> $ amservice localhost.localdomain bsdtcp noop </dev/null
Request failed: timeout waiting for ACK

I have checked/modified the .amandahosts file, as well as the
amanda-client.conf file.

PROD> $ cat /etc/*release*
