Two ideas: 1. Increase etimeout for the vtape-config and run amdump with the --no-dump option. If I understand that option correctly, it should do a full backup run including the estimates without actually writing anything to (v)tapes or the holding disks. 2. As you have the same DLEs for both configs, maybe you can extract the lines beginning with 'history:' from daily/curinfo/<host>/<path>/info and copy them to the same file of your vtape config. But this is just an idea, I have never done that and can't say if it works at all.
