Thank you for the prompt reply. I am pushed for time a bit here as I need to
isntall this server in a couple of hours...

I get the errors with every message. Also, I'm not running in chroot.


This is what I get when I run the command as per your suggestion :-

With every message or only on some?

The program f-prot died of segmentation violation (SEGV), which usually
means a programming error in the program.

Does it work if you use the same command interactively as user vscan?
( su vscan -c 'f-prot -dumb -archive -packed some.directory </dev/null' )
Are you running amavisd in chroot?
