E.A.Neonakis,
I have installled amavisd-new-2.3.3 a week ago in single sendmail
configuration for incoming mail only.
I have tried the tests in the test-messages directory and noticed that
the sample-42-mail-bomb.txt is not blocked.
Also ho headers are added in the messages.
I would like to know whether that is the expected behaviour in this
configuration or if I have misconfigured amavis
To clarify Jerzy's reply: yes, this is expected behaviour.
Mail bomb protection works like this: it protects decoders
and virus checkers from trying to decode recursively.
You get "NOTICE: Virus scanning skipped: ..." in the log,
virus scanning is NOT done(!), and if the setup allows it,
mail header field:
X-Amavis-Hold: WARNING: possible mail bomb, NOT CHECKED FOR VIRUSES
is inserted, and if $defang_virus is true a mail body is wrapped
in and extra MIME layer.
These two mail modifications are only possible in certain setups,
like in a dual-MTA setup (common with Postfix, possible with other
mailers including sendmail, see README.sendmail-dual).
In case of sendmail milter setup, mail body replacement is not
supported ($defang_virus has no effect). Regarding the insertion
of mail header, this should work with Petr Rehor's amavis-milter
as Jerzy noted,
Mail header insertion works well with amavisd-milter (by Petr Rehor) but
with a slightly different insertion:
X-Amavis-Hold: Exceeded storage quota 29419000 bytes by do_unzip; last chunk
32150 bytes
The test mail-bomb is good detected with subject modification:
***UNCHECKED*** amavisd test - 42.zip mail bomb
In my opinion it is enough.
Best regards,
Jerzy.
