I think the main reasons there is SA support in amavisd-new are because
both are written in perl, there are or were many problems with spamc/d,
and spamc/d cannot be run as a robust SMTP content-filter which is
better for Postfix integration.
amavisd-new allows SA to be pre-loaded, works better than spamc/d, and
adds SMTP support. IMO if spamc/d were top-notch, and ran as an SMTP
or LMTP content-filter, amavisd-new wouldn't need to call SA and
wouldn't have supported SA in the first place.

DSPAM daemon mode can support having 1 user opt-in and another opt-out,
or 1 domain opt-in and another opt-out, so why reinvent the wheel with
amavisd-new? I think supporting DSPAM in the name of just one interface
would just add an extra interface to cause problems and confusion.
