Since the upgrade, at peak times, the messages take a lot of time to be
sent. They usually took 2s to 3s at most, now they always take 10s+
(sometimes more than 2min or 3min!).
From the amavis.log, it seems that the problem is in the SMTP-* and
fwd-* sections. Always.

From the fwd-connect I'd think about a reverse DNS lookup timeout...?
But everything seems fine. :-/

Yes, and the files /etc/hosts, /etc/host.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf are
configured correctly.
Usually, the 4 sections that "eat" most of the time are SMTP DATA,
fwd-data, fwd-connect and fwd-data-end.
I accumulated the statistics of 256 msgs to give a better picture of
what we are seeing, these are the results:
772.31s (28.01%) SMTP DATA | 3.71s ( 0.13%) SMTP LHLO
482.99s (17.52%) fwd-connect | 3.14s ( 0.11%) SMTP pre-DATA-flush
438.94s (15.92%) fwd-data | 2.53s ( 0.09%) unlink-files
300.61s (10.90%) fwd-data-end | 0.64s ( 0.02%) body hash
177.31s ( 6.43%) fwd-rcpt-to | 0.61s ( 0.02%) sql-connect
139.92s ( 5.07%) SA check | 0.54s ( 0.02%) SA parse
127.49s ( 4.62%) fwd-rundown | 0.38s ( 0.01%) SA msg read
126.30s ( 4.58%) write-header | 0.31s ( 0.01%) rundown
117.27s ( 4.25%) fwd-mail-from | 0.02s ( 0.00%) save-to-local-mailbox
27.47s ( 1.00%) AV-scan-1 | 0.02s ( 0.00%) sql-prepare
21.37s ( 0.77%) mime_decode | 0.01s ( 0.00%) create email.txt
7.59s ( 0.28%) lookup_sql | 0.01s ( 0.00%) mkdir parts

We have been beating our heads for some days trying to figure this out,
but can't think of any possible solution... :-(
