FWIW, I did a dist-upgrade and zimbra showed the mta was down
afterwards. Postfix was still functioning, as (I think) was
amavisd-new, but there were no amavis entries in the logs, regardless
of $log_level. I was able to send mail to my mailbox and saw postfix
sending to 127.0.0.1. I attempted to reinstall zimbra but met with
failure at each attempt. It appears the ldap server will not fire up
if DNS records are not to its liking. I used the same DNS settings
(that worked in sarge) but failed to work in etch. Never got it
installed. It's dead. I would say in general it's more suited to
sarge, as the environment is predictable. Even if you get it working,
who knows what will change in a non stable environment.
