$unix_socketname may be useful for amavisd-release.
If you don't use amavisd-release, you don't need $unix_socketname
in a Postfix or dual-MTA setup. If you do use amavisd-release,
it may use either $unix_socketname or some other inet port,
which needs to be configured to turn on AM.PDP protocol.

If you insert the printouts you may do: print STDERR ...
and run 'amavisd foreground' or 'amavisd debug',
in each case the STDERR will remain attached to the
terminal window.
