Hmmm, I'm in the process of moving the mail/web servers over to a 
Linux system (the Mac is too much trouble).  I wonder if this is just 
a Mac thing that will go away with the move?

While I'm here, any suggestions on setting up the new system?  To 
keep is close to what I'm used to (leaving out the bad parts), I'm thinking of:

Ubuntu Feisty Fawn
Postfix (old version on Mac)
Amavisd-new
Clamd
SpamAssassin
Dovecot (currently Cyrus on the Mac)
