I make film/video animation and public art. I work a lot at splicing hand made stuff with computer technology and I work away from technology also. Ive just launched two new sites http://www.sinnflut.de/keramika http://www.woolworld.org
I think the first ambit topic is back to front. It seems to me that site , location and facillities for digital work have been shaped in response to existing artistic strategy and independent digital community. It might be more interesting to consider how institutional policy regarding technology has shifted in response to pioneer work by artists who were engaged with technology before it was recognised in the main stream as culturally crucial to the arts as well as commerce. So what impact do artists practice have on site and location, funding policy etc and also what are coherent artistic strategies to encourage public demand for access to these new centres of excellence by the people who have paid for them. I think its interesting also that one of the ambit rules is not to ask "how to" software questions. Considering that technological community is based on sharing, the culture of the FAQ and communal programming. Whilst I recognise a space for specialised discourse about technology that is not technical , Id be really interested to talk to artists who dont know how to use technology or actively avoid it and why to see how demographics of use are shaped. I also want to know why you dont establish a message board with multiple strands and non linear conversation. I dont understand how this email conversation is going to evolve. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------------------------- a m b i t : networking media arts in scotland post: [EMAIL PROTECTED] info: send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and write "info ambit" in the message body -------------------------------------------------
