Indeed ... back to the issue at hand.

Being part of a large HE institution, I find the pleas from Deans and 
Principals for us all to create 'cross-disciplinary' teaching 
practices and project networks etc. quite odd in light of the fact 
that the structures are not in place which would better afford those 
possibilities.
My thoughts revolve around some notions implicit and explicit in 
object orientation (programming): departments don't have to become 
elephants of inclusion, but can maintain their own autonomy 
(sovereignty?) and create networks with other departments, 
practioners, etc. through shared parameters/aspects and 
department/staff-specific methods of interaction. I am more 
interested in the design of the relationship syntax; perhaps as I 
become less of a newby in this mail list business, I will find 
relevant aspects. Of course, I would welcome any thoughts from those 
more experienced than I in this kind of networking and its possible 
crossover into large institutional organisations.
