Art in the Home

"Art in the Home" is an exploration of private and public space for both
artist and audience; of the ways that artists respond to and work with the
domestic environment and of the architecture of cities in both East and
West. The opportunity for these artists to make/site work in a domestic
environment in Scotland and Japan will give audiences an interesting insight
into cultural concerns and attitudes in both countries as well as access to
a vibrant and exciting group of new artists exhibiting in new structures.
The project is being co-ordinated by eca, City Art Centre and Collective
Gallery and is in association with Japan 2001, Scottish Arts Council and the
Daiwa-Anglo Japanese Foundation.

We wish to approach individuals who are interested in welcoming an artist
from either Japan, Scotland or Europe to produce new work within their home.
This is the second half of an international project, the initial exhibition
took place in Yamaguchi in October and was a great success. We are
particularly interested in homes in the New Town, Old Town and the East End.
Work will begin on the 9 March, however installation dates will be subject
to negotiation with the home owner and the artist. The exhibition will be
open to the public over two weekends, the dates are:

Thursday 21 March to Sunday 24 March and Friday 29 March to Sunday 31 March.

Each home will be allocated an invigilator and we will also conduct
organised tours.

The artists included are:

Paul Carter (Scotland)

Kate Gray (Scotland)

Takuji Kogo - Candy Factory (Japan)

Lyn Lowenstein (Scotland)

Billy McCall (Scotland)

Janice McNab (Scotland)

Ola Pehrson (Sweden)

Sean Snyder (Germany)

Shimabuku (Japan)

Yoshiyuki Shirakawa (Japan)

Eiji Watanabe (Japan)

If you are interested and would like an informal chat please do not hesitate
to contact myself or Jane Warrilow, ideally we would like to hear from you
before Thursday 31 January.

Thanks

Suzanne
