Occasional Documents: Towards Situation - Howard Slater
In a culture still driven by commodity exchange and representation, driven
by the submergence of social relationships in the object, the means of
expression, as the vital component of creative activity, is often
overlooked. Yet, if there is to be a popular participation in culture...

Request:
I think Rob has already mentioned that I'm trying to establish a Scotland
wide shared arts orgs e-group to pool contacts and circulate info. It
follows on from the artist-run events & opportunities e-list I set up for
the Glasgow Project Room.

We've had meetings in Glasgow (StreetLevel) and Edinburgh (Out of the Blue)
and there's been a great deal of support for it from across Scotland.

Concerns raised have been mainly about the level of traffic people might
receive, receiving information thats relevant to the individual, and too
large file sizes.

Suggestions have been to find an e-group set up that will allow:

1) the individual orgs to initially e-mail out to their existing contacts
asking them to subscribe to the collective e-group
2) for the e-group to to be unmediated, relying on individual responsibility
3) for all orgs to have joint access as e-group owners
3) for the individual subscriber to be able to subscribe to particular
categories of info - such as openings, east coast, west coast, or all, etc.
- which would mean categorising the info orgs send to the group
4) for a broad range of activity to be posted
5) that the e-group should not be for private/commercial speculation

If anyone can help, info of something that would fit these requirements
would be much appreciated.

All the best
Leigh French
