Eimer Birkbeck and Kirsty Stansfield (Acoustic Cone) ��������� info �������������� In our piece �Furniture Music�, the table functions as a visual and sonic instrument which allows the user to experience the sublime within the everyday. A specially composed soundscape is emitted from one of the table�s legs causing it to appear to lean more heavily to one side, the sound physically anchoring it in space. The sounds have been sourced from the act of sitting at or around a table. The table as a meeting point in a social space and in its material sense a physical object encountered in a room. These sounds often concern the movement and light captured in the instant of hearing. The everyday sounds are stripped of their quotidian function and flirt with us momentarily as something else. For example the act of hearing a sound is no longer that of looking to see where that sound came from, instead subtle textures are revealed, the familiar becomes unfamiliar and the banal becomes mysterious.
