MORE INFORMATION:

DISKONO PRESENT : SORRY I COULD NOT BE WITH YOU TONIGHT
(a program of Sound & Image)

By presenting these film works by experimental
musicians in a new context we hope to stimulate
interest in travel and tourism and facilitate an
exchange of ideas and information.

"When it comes to sound, the proletariat must use all
the means at it's disposal. Never the line of least
resistance, but the line of maximum resistance...that
of complex interaction of sound and image" Diga Vertov
1929

DISKONO & ROB KENNEDY (SCOTLAND)

"You're Not Blank" (2'30) 2002 VHS

The result of video feedback and strong coffee.
Commission for 'Evil Eye is Source' by Shaddaz & The
Modern Institute.

FELIX KUBIN (GLASGOW)

"It's Europe" (5'30) 1994, "Forwards, Free German
Youth" (4'35) 1994, "Naked" (3') 1994

Born in Hamburg in 1969, Felix has been active in the
field of experimental music and performance since the
early 1980's. After studying drawing (comics), video,
animation and film, he worked for a year in the media Department of the
Enschede Art School in the Netherlands. A leading member of Hamburg
militant Dada-Socialist party, Kommunistische Einheitspartei
Deutschlands, (Communist Unification Party of
Germany) from 92-94 and since 1987, a member of the
futurist noise group Klangkreig (Sonic War). Currently exploring the
strange world of sci-fi pop, psychedelic carpentry and gardening
machines.

"Kubin celebrates an anti-organisational principle
that links him to a whole network of like-minded
navigators awe-struck by obscure terrorist factions,
b-movie sequels and pop fodder. his own 'Gagarin'
label and his work with imprints such as Diskono ask
all the questions that proper musicians keep to
themselves" (Lovebytes)

RICHARD SANDERSON

"Domestic Investigations" (5') 2001

Curator of this years LMC Festival, Host and MC at
Baggage Reclaim, London's most "sonically adventuous"
night out bar none; Richard Sanderson is a member of 'Ticklish', along
with distinguished London improvisor Kev Hopper (Stereolab, High Lamas,
cooperation with Charkes Hayward), Phil Durrant (cooperation with John
Butcher, John Russel, Thomas Lehn, Radu Malfatti, the Music in Movement
Electronic Orchestra) and the video artist Rob Flint.

"Domestic Investigations" is Richard's second film
after "My Stairs" first shown at Noisegate
magazine's "Atavistic Ratchets" event at Lewisham
Arthouse. Richard's films are very lo-fi, filmed on
(non digital) video and edited "in camera". "I use
primitive video in the same way that I used toys in
music;- As a way of entering a "scene" cheaply and
effectively whilst simultaneously by-passing outdated
notions of "skill" and "virtuosity"...

JAN VAN DEN DOBBELSTEEN & DANIELLE LEMAIRE

"Mother, Father" (6') 2001
"Red Film" (8') 2001

Jan & Danielle work as art tag team JADA, out of Breda
and Eindhoven (NL). Jan (b.1950's) teaches at the Art
Academy in Breda and works in many mediums, from film, installation to
sound. Danielle (b. 1960's) draws, paints, works with ceramics, fabrics
and breathes new life into the tired phrase "singer-songwriter".

BROWN SIERRA

"Magnetic Resonance Imaging", "Absence No 1 Volume", "Cryptogenic
Electroencephalogram" excerpts (5')

3 films are made with TV CCTV VCR feedback and AF
electronics to create audio visual breakdown analogous
to the type of neural breakdown that can be induced by
watching them.

Based in London and composed of Pia Gambardella and
Paddy Collins, Brown Sierra has developed through many
stages using electronics, self made instruments, door
bells, car horns, sound sculptures, super 8 films,
video and slide projections. Although referencing (and
resembling) kinetic works of the 1960's and 70's,
their work engages in an entirely contemporary way
with the physicality of sound. Paddy and Pia also edit
the magazine 'NoiseGate' , a quarterly publication
dedicated to the exploration and exposure of the
innovative use of sound as a functional and creative
medium.
