This is the second in the series of open submission compilation CDs,
primarily directed at practitioners from the visual/live arts arena, who
may,
or may not work with sound as an element of their work. The artists involved
range from the very well known to totally anonymous. The content varies from
full band line ups to found material manipulated by an individual, recorded
in high tech studios to answer machine tapes. Many of the film makers,
poets,
painters and performers have produced an audio work for the first time as
well as some musicians experiments. The phenomenal success of CD one has
meant that the response to this years project has been overwhelming. Over
300 artists from around the world submitted material for inclusion. For this
reason the format of UA2 will be a four CD book set including archive
interviews and experiments from the vaults, with an accompanying booklet
including a page by each artist. The work does however all share a unique
and
questioning approach to dealing with the medium of Sound. Tracks include
Giddion cube Shermans remix of John Cages notorious 1952 composition 4
minutes 33 seconds, new and unheard tracks from bands like Owada, The Ken
Ardley Play Boys, Low expectations and Matthew Collings occasional art world
super group Inter Species Love Child.
The launch of UA2 will feature live performances from many of the
contributing artists as well as D & VJ's, artists visuals, performance,
constructions and film and video -- all of which will be made in direct
relation to the tracks. Entrance to the event will, as with CD one, simply
be
the purchase of the CD as a kind of program for a live rendition, kept to
the
production cost of the CD (about 5). The live event is every bit as
important as the CD involving over 70 artists and 12 bands, many of whom
will
be working for the first time in new media as a total and unique departure
from their existing medium and working praxis. Underwood Audio 2 will also
be
released through the new web site, containing download able MP3 as well as
save disabled quicktime full length tracks alongside material from UA 1 and
other audio projects:-
