Call for Papers; Afterimage; Special issue on Visual Studies Afterimage
seeks submissions of essays, features and reviews for a special issue that
will explore the current state and future direction of visual studies. The
issue will develop issues and insights relevant to the theoretical and
pragmatic concerns of the Visual Studies Workshop during its current
process of comprehensive planning. This evolving 30-year-old institution,
its mission/goals and ultimate transformation, will serve as an immediate
case study for responses to the rapid changes in the field, but the
content will not be limited to the particular concerns or examples of the
Visual Studies Workshop. Afterimage invites the consideration of any of
the following topics, as well as others suggested by contributors, and
their application to visual studies programs as dynamic centers of
scholarship and studio practice the volatile nature of the image in a
world of information; vernacular imagery and democracy; li
 teracy and illiteracy concerning media; visuality, values and systems of
power; pedagogy and its role in shaping visual studies. SEND cover letter,
