Watch out for data protection act compliance here as well -- can never remember which way round it is but the act of publishing people's email addresses needs to be permission based... i.e. people have to opt in to you using their person details rather than you giving them the option of opting out (if you know what I mean). Ideally, the opting in process should take place during sign up to the list - it would probably have to take place retrospectively before publishing any addresses.

Hi Chris,

My point was actually to make the information public so that no only can we
know what each other are doing it can also be a wider resource of new media
practioners (in the fullest sense, including people in creative industries,
researchers, curators, artists etc...). I have asked anyone who minds having
their email address made public to contact me and I won't list it. Not sure
about the data protection act but as has been discussed previously on the list
the archive is already public. I'll double check this but I imagined that as I
am asking list members to contact me if they don't want to be listed this
should be fine.

Quoting Chris Hand <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Regarding spam-bots harvesting people's email addresses,
surely the simplest way to prevent this is protect
the relevant pages behind a member password.

In fact, many members might prefer (or insist on) the
details only being available to other members. For all
I know it might even be a requirement of the data protection
 act.

If you're still in the early stages of design you might want
to look at one of the many freeware Content Management Systems out
there (e.g. postNuke)... you probably want to keep this info in
a database anyway so that it's easy to keep up to date.

 Chris
