why place bubbles
around what we would communicate
seems to me that the only thing really defining the ambit list thus far is the things it can't contain
Why not just join nettime, Spectre, Empyre, Rhizome RAW, or some other list? The distinctiveness is partly acheived through the geographic and social base of the list - most of the <ambit> community are still within Scotland, or have strong Scottish connections.
i think it defines itself adequately so and that that's a strength
But also the focus of the list is around media art, technologies and art - and discussing these topics. We've tried to keep discussion going through the monthly topics. I think to some extent this has helped to keep a certain level of debate going, otherwise it would be mainly an announcements list.to be fair promo and opportunities unquestionably accounts for the vast majority of the flow and much appreciated at times it is
as are some things i stray into inadvertently
but i excercise my delete key often
as it was sent by the digi-gods to do
i would like to see more discussion, thought, for sure but there does seem to be an occasionally patrician hand visited upon proceedings which can be patronising at best
perhaps this is a consequence of the undue burden of responsibility placed upon the ambit staff to be the conscience of the list which is a waste of everyone's energy at the end of the day ... debating the not to be mentioned
so i agree with simon
why not just leave the list unmoderated
create clear protocols for subject headers that can be easily identified and deleted if of no interest
peace
