THE AUDIBLE PICTURE SHOW Monday 10th November 19.45pm The Filmhouse, Lothian Road, Edinburgh.
Jaded by a world bombarded with image? The Audible Picture Show will remind you of what cinema can really do. A diverse range of curious and inventive people - including some of the most interesting film makers and audio artists working today such as Andrew Kotting, Zoe Irvine, Tony Hill and Mark Vernon - were invited to respond to the challenge of creating short audio works specifically for 'a darkened cinema'. The result of the simple and ingenius experiment is a rather unique and genuinely entertaining experience that gives the mind's eye a welcome stretch.
The Audible Picture Show is designed to evolve and adapt to each new context of presentation, incorporating wherever possible works by artists local to each event. In this way, the Show absorbs a little of the flavour of its journey, and steadily builds up an intriguing archive of works, mapping a modest sonic history.
Uniquely for the Filmhouse presentation, Glasgow-based composer Daniel Padden has created an entirely new work specially for Cinema 2 called THE FLIMSY HORSE (a duet), to be premiered during the Show.
Originally curated for the Lux Open 2003, the Audible Picture Show was recently enjoyed at the Cambridge Film Festival and is looking forward to a special presentation at Barcelona's ALTERNATIVA Festival in Nov 2003.
