Artist stephen JAKUB exhibits a new work, “proposed redevelopment of 18 Woodlands road”, in the [vsf] from 28th april – 2nd may 2004.
The [vsf] will host an architects style concept drawing of a proposed redevelopment for the immediate area. The redevelopment would require the demolition of the surrounding residential buildings to make way to a fairground Ferris wheel, a structure created for leisure and for viewing an area from a different perspective.
In this work JAKUB is interested in the difference between the perceived authority of bureaucracy and a citizen’s individual idea. The artist does not intend the work to appear as a hoax for the public, he feels they should be in on the joke- maybe they could propose a redevelopment in future? JAKUB states “Why shouldn’t I be exhibiting my plans? We all have our visions for the city”
