5.00: TALK: Catherine David
Catherine's talk will focus on the
methodologies by which she researches, approaches and negotiates contexts
within her practice. This talk takes place at the end of the first week of her
research undertaken towards the development of a concept for a curated project
in the West Midlands region at the invitation of Midwest.
Catherine David is an internationally
respected and pioneering French curator. She is currently Director
of Witte de With, Rotterdam and was
previously Director of the controversial Documenta X project, Kassel,
Germany between
1994-1997. In 1999 she was curator of Antropofagia � the film and video
programme of XXIV Biennale of Sao Paolo, Brazil and she is currently
researching a project examining contemporary representations of Arabic culture
with the University of Seville
and the Academie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart.

David Mackintosh is an artist
and Co Director of the All Year Round Club, Manchester. He is working on a new book of his
drawings, some of which are currently showing at Felix Ringel Galleries, Dusseldorf.

Sue Tompkins is an artist
living in Glasgow represented by The Modern Institute. Current
exhibitions include 'Haute Street',
Diana Stigter, Amsterdam.

Midwest is a new agency with a mission to
provide catalysts for creative thought that will compliment the development of
visual arts artistic practice within the West Midlands region, nationally and
internationally. Since 2003 Midwest has been working with artists, thinkers and
organisations to develop initiatives that encourage artist-led culture. Midwest is dependent on the collective
thoughts and actions of a community.

in the West Midlands at the invitation of the Arts Council of England, West Midlands. Midwest seeks to be a catalyst for global sharing.
