Creative Digital Interaction Symposium

September 14th, 2004

Lecture Theatre in Main Building
Edinburgh College of Art
Lauriston Place
Edinburgh
Scotland

The computer is a multidisciplinary instrument that breaks traditional boundaries that divide the creative disciplines. Digital technology is not an end in itself, but is a powerful tool for solving creative problems.

The symposium will be a forum for communication between designers, artists, media workers, and architects, as well as for a broad public, interested in digital creativity. It will offer reflections from key speakers, working within the concept and development of digital interaction, on the role of digital technologies in contemporary society. Their focus will be on how digital media allows designers and artists to realize creative ideas in the same way that materials and techniques do in other disciplines.

The structure for the day will be based around presentations by 6-8 speakers, with question sessions and a discussion forum. Watch this space for more information about the speakers, their topics for presentation, and the programme for the day.

User demonstrations will be held on the day before and day after the symposium (13th and 15th September) and the intention is for those interested in trying the Tacitus haptic system to sign on online for a 10 minute session. Two pieces of software have been developed for demonstrating the development and potential of haptic (touch) and spatial virtual environments for creative interaction.

We will be inviting an artist to explore 3D sketching on the 1st day and to give a reflective presentation at the symposium the following day.
