Please circulate Press Release, Cabin Exchange 2004 Saturday 28th August-Saturday 4th September
Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, 25 Hawthornvale, Leith Edinburgh City Centre, Potterrow, NCP Car park. Cabin Exchange will be taking a change of direction in 2004, its 3rd year of providing temporary art spaces in the humble form of the city PortaCabin. This year sees the strongly Glasgow-based enterprise in the close by, disparate, currently festival ridden Edinburgh. The week-long event will be host to 13 different artists and art events between the two locations - the pastoral, art-friendly charm of the ESW and the signature city cabin site of the NCP car park at Potterrow. The Cabins, yellow in colour this year- offer themselves to the uses of largely Glasgow and Edinburgh based artists, performers and musicians ranging from the art-school graduates and Cabin Exchange regulars Shit Disco (opening the event) to the possible intrigue and delight of dystopian landscapes, spectacular light installations, guerrilla tactics, human puppetry, and political dialogue - to alight on but a few of the proposed events. The non-profit, web-documented organisation calls for no CV's or previous experience upon selection for the event so the cabins are allocated purely on the strength of proposals - this provides an exciting opportunity for non-artists and folk from other disciplines to take part. The move to Edinburgh, combined with the smaller number of projects, equal timeslots and new editions to the curation team looks to be a new direction for Cabin Exchange following it's Glasgow successes- and one to follow and take part in. This year Cabin Exchange is also in association with Magazine at ESW, a new exhibition that takes place annually and is shown for a week in the workshop exhibition space. www.cabinexchange.com for details Look out for the blue and white logo flyers around Glasgow and Edinburgh for details.
