Magazine
On the 28th August 2004, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW) will launch our
new annual contemporary art event Magazine.

20 artists have been invited to create new work considering the entire
building together with grounds as potential exhibition spaces. The site
has been transformed from an industrial workshop into a unique visual arts
venue encompassing traditional 'white-cube' gallery spaces, a projection
wall, a large garden setting as well as more discrete 'alternative' spaces.
The exhibition will coincide with the Edinburgh Festival,
showcasing sculpture in its widest sense as well as building on ESW's
reputation for providing a high quality platform and support structure for
our artist members.

Installations, site-specific interventions, video, wall drawings and
stand-alone pieces by emerging artists from throughout the country will
represent the current breadth of activity in Scottish contemporary art.
Following successful collaborations with the artist-led groups

Strains we will also be working in partnership with Cabin Exchange

a Glasgow based initiative who will be siting two PortaCabins in Edinburgh,
one in the ESW courtyard and another in the city centre. These storage
units will be housing up to 10 individual projects throughout the week-long
event lasting anything from one minute to 24 hours.

Visitors will be encouraged to unleash their sense of
curiosity and explore every inch of the site
Artists and studio holders will be on hand to discuss their
practice with visitors
Visitors will be given the opportunity to see where artwork
is created including studios and workshop facilities
New connections will be forged between emerging artists
working in Glasgow and Edinburgh, giving them a unique opportunity to
exhibit
together in an unusual venue dedicated to supporting
artists
