I agree that we could implement a better caching mechanism, could rewrite the
dashboard plugin such that retrieving all gadgets at once is not necessary
(using pagination), etc. etc. The point is, that will take time to fix. In the
meantime, why would we remove this fix, which works and only effects the
implementation? If we would remove this feature we would be back to where we
started, with complaining developers (I'm sitting right next to one ;->).
So I do agree we could improve the solution in many ways, but that will take
time and I don't see any reason why in the meantime this simple caching
mechanism should be removed. Adding a FIXME should do I think.
