You can open different instances of AB at one time However if you try to run a scan or explore with more than one open I have found that the scan or explore will get confused and can use either instance

I installed a new version in a new locations but it seems the two versions are not completely independent (from files to window locations) and I am concerned that by saving the second version it will modify the first.
