I have dusted off the ancient and crufty tomes, and quoted Frederick E. Terman, George E. Sterling, William I. Orr, among other luminaries, to the FCC.. If invoking the elder gods not scare the devil out of them, we have a lost cause. To summarize the writings of these esteemed scholars and engineers, the minimum bandwidth for understandability required is +/- 2700Hz, and for a communications quality signal, 3000-3500 Hz. High quality is defined at 4KHz.

I've also posted another comment. (http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/retrieve.cgi?native_or_pdf=pdf&id_document=6514284244) There are only 56 comments as of now. How many AM enthusiasts are there? and they need not all be hams, what of the SWLs who seek the AM? Let's get active and get our friends active too! I am studying for my General, strictly for AM. Hate to see it ruined before I can even get there. Patrick Jankowiak FCC: PG-10-22028 Amateur: KD5OEI
