Jim, for your information, I have a Western Electric 451A-1 transmitter
(250
watt class) that uses Doherty circuitry. It has 6 tubes in the final that
are similar to 211 type tubes.
Dave, are you sure it uses the Doherty circuit? I recall working a couple
of guys on 160 each using one of those rigs, and they told me it was
straight control grid modulation. If you run short of 211's, the rig will
run at reduced power by leaving some of the sockets empty. The problem with
that transmitter is that the audiophools have scarfed up all the surplus
211's and tubes for the final are now expensive and hard to find.
