You May want to contact Jack Gittings KA6JDZ He Builds a DipSwitch PLL
Unit which replaces the Crystal. He sells them On Ebay I found it
while searching for "am transmitter"

I finally, after much trial and error, got the buffer and driver
coils to
work on 160 meters. I had to remove wire from the coils.
For a PTO,. I would recommend inserting it into the plate of the
oscillator
tube through a capacitor.
You would pull out the oscillator tube, of course. Perhaps, a Heathkit
VFO - being more common - would work.
