And most ladder-line comes in 75, 450, and (IIRC) 600 ohm - to get
500 ohm must one make the tuning stub? To what dimensions? or will
450-ohm work too, but result (I assume) in a slightly different
feedpoint impedance?

Not all transmission line is commercially made. Two peices of wire,
with home-brew insulators spaced at at a distance of 'x' part = 500
ohms. The formula is out there, somewhere. Do the math :-)
