Well guys I know that I am an old coot as you would say..64.5 years old and started on AM in 1958 even though it was 2 meter AM HI!! Then a DX35 to a pair of 813's in 1960.My 813 rig was built by the guys at the FCC Station in SEARSPORT Maine. After they were caught running a KW during work time they were told to get rid of it. It was a 6 Foot rack with 813 modulators and NO TVI suppression at all. I put it on the air and just about knocked out every TV set in the neighborhood...I paid $125 complete for it LOL...Just a bit of OM Trivia...

I think the bulk of the active AMers I know are in the 40-60 bracket, with the majority under 55. But it's true that very few seem to be coming along behind us to take up the reigns when we leave. As far as the HB rig, probably not a terrible price in it has a lot of good parts. Buying HB is always a case of buying a design or layout that someone else preferred. Usually you can't get rid of them for real money unless it's a really nice, clean, well-built piece utilizing top notch components. I always find it amusing too, when someone's friend(s) who have no real idea, insist it must be worth more. Anytime someone tells me that this is the basis for their pricing, I ask 'did they offer to buy it for that price?'. Hey Tom, do you ever talk with Brian W1LYD (ex N1HUT) is Skagway? He's big into AM and tube gear. ~ Todd, KA1KAQ ______________________________________________________________ AMRadio mailing list List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:[email protected] To unsubscribe, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body. ______________________________________________________________ AMRadio mailing list List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:[email protected] To unsubscribe, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.
